CLARKSBURG – An escapee from a Wheeling Detention Center was arrested Monday afternoon by U.S. Marshals in Reynoldsville.
Xander Ball, 18, wanted by the West Virginia State Police for escape, was arrested at a residence near Sable Circle at approximately 3:45 p.m.
On Oct. 10, Ball is alleged to have escaped from a detention facility in Wheeling. Ball was being held at the detention center in connection with an attempted homicide charge that stemmed from a shooting in July in Star City.
Earlier Monday, following up on tips received from the public, U.S. Marshals, along with Fugitive Task Force partners, Clarksburg Police Department and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office positively identified Ball at the residence. After observing Ball, officers approached the residence, Ball attempted to flee by jumping out of a window but was immediately taken into custody.
Additionally, a second person, Cannan Hitt, was also arrested based on an outstanding capias warrant in Harrison County.
“The cooperation of all involved agencies, the determination of our investigators, and the public’s willingness to assist directly led to the safe apprehension of this dangerous fugitive,” said Terry Moore, Acting United States Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia.
The U.S. Marshals-led Mountain State Fugitive Task Force is committed to assisting West Virginia’s state and local departments to track down dangerous fugitives who attempt to avoid their charges by fleeing the state.
