ELKINS - Incumbent Republican Jonathan Kyle won re-election to the House of Delegates District 66 seat

in Tuesday’s general election.

Kyle garnered 2,657 votes combined in Randolph and Pocahontas counties, overcoming the Democratic challenger Danielle Dougherty, who totaled 1,676 votes, according to unofficial vote totals from Tuesday evening.

Kyle stated he was “really excited" about winning a second term, when interviewed by The Inter-Mountain Tuesday night at the Randolph County Courthouse, where he was awaiting election returns with family and friends.

“Going back in and the first two years was a steep learning curve,” Kyle said. “Now we’ve got relationships built. We’ve got responsibilities down there. We’ve got some chairmanships already on the books for me. I’m excited to build and grow on what we’re already doing.”

Kyle said his priorities for this legislative term include economic development.

“The only way to fix a lot of the other problems is to get the economy to continue to grow, continue to build,” Kyle said. “That revenue will allow us to focus on infrastructure and school funding and teacher pay and all of those other things that are symptoms. It’s a whole lot easier to be growing the economy and have money to spend than it is to be looking for ways to cut.”

Kyle thanked his constituents for their support and for letting him represent them for the next two years. He noted that he looks forward to representing all his constituents, even those who did not vote for him.

“I know you’re never going to get 100% of the vote,” Kyle said. “You’re never going to have 100% of people happy with you, but I’m still there and responsible to represent each and every one of them.”
