ELKINS – Republican Les Mallow was victorious in the race for the 67th District House of Delegates seat during the General Election Tuesday.
Mallow, a practicing Elkins attorney, tallied 2,309 total voters. Democrat Mandy Weirich, a social worker, finished with 1,758 votes.
Mallow held a slight 940-911 lead after early voting. He claimed the win after holding a 1,326 to 804 advantage in voting on Election Day.
The incumbent, Republican Elias Coop-Gonzalez, did not run for re-election. He first won the seat in 2022.
Weirich was at the Randolph County Courthouse Tuesday night and congratulated her opponent for his victory.
“I congratulate Les and I hope he is able to work for the people,” Weirich said. “I hope that he is not a pet for Patrick Morrisey, because all we have seen so far from the super majority is higher prices, lower wages, school closings, and torn up roads. I would like to see West Virginians want more of a change.”
Weirich added that she worked hard on her campaign and that on Wednesday she will begin working toward 2028.
“It was up to the voters and the voters have decided,” Weirich said. “We will keep working and we should have a two-party system in the state of West Virginia with a more balanced government and one that works for the people. So tomorrow we start for 2028.”
