Randolph, Barbour to receive VOCA funds

By Brad Johnson 4 min read

CHARLESTON - Randolph and Barbour counties will be receiving funds from the $17,178,347 in Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding through 81 grants awarded across West Virginia, announced by Gov. Patrick Morrisey.

The Randolph County allocations include $121,808 to the Randolph County Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc., $59,430 to the Randolph County Commission, and $600,306 to Women’s Aid in Crisis, also known as Centers Against Violence, which is headquartered in Elkins.

The Barbour County Commission is scheduled to receive $38,856 from the funding grants, officials said.

“No one should have to face the aftermath of a crime alone,”Morrisey said in a press release. “These grants put counselors, advocates and safe shelter within reach of victims in every part of West Virginia, and they help survivors understand and exercise their rights as their cases move through the courts. I’m grateful to the organizations that do this work in our communities every day.”

The funding will support services include counseling, emergency shelter, advocacy, transportation and additional services for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and other crimes as they move through the justice system, the release states.

The grants are administered by the Justice and Community Services Section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services.
