Linda Mae Hite Gould
Linda Mae Hite Gould, 76, a resident of Valley Head, passed from this life July 3, 2020, from pancreatic cancer at the West Virginia Caring Hospice Center in Elkins by her loving family.
Linda fought this terrible disease for almost two years but no matter how sick she was, she was always determined. Many others would have given up, but she stayed strong with a positive attitude and often told others “you just have to take one day at a time.”
Linda was born July 25, 1943, in Valley Head, a daughter of the late Walker Fred Hite and Sylvia Violet Turner Hite.
She is survived by the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Gould. Dick and Linda had celebrated 55 years of marriage, but they have been a couple since eighth grade.
Linda was blessed with two children, Richard Gould II and Melissa “Gould” Wilfong, along with two amazing grandchildren, Haleigh Wilfong and Matthew Gould; three sisters, Wanda Corder from Ohio, Barbara Shiley from Lewisburg, Doris Long from Valley Head and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were two brothers, Walker Hite Jr. and Jiggs Hite; and one sister, Margie Starr.
Linda was a 1961 graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and had been employed as a cook for Randolph County Schools for 27 years. After retiring, Linda spent her time taking care of her grandchildren, cooking and cleaning. She was a great cook and was known to make the best hot dog chili and homemade rolls. If you had the opportunity to come to her house for dinner, if you left hungry it was “your own fault” and you were more than likely taking things home with you for later. Linda was a member of the Valley Head United Methodist Church and also a board member for the Valley Head Public Library. She will be greatly missed but we know that she is now pain free. Our loss is certainly heaven’s blessing.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Linda’s request for cremation will then be honored. As we continue following guidelines from the CDC and Gov. Jim Justice’s recent mandate, facial coverings are required for those attending.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Linda’s memory to the Davis Medical Center Cancer Care Center 801 Gorman Ave, Elkins, WV 26241, WV Caring 169 Diamond St, Elkins, WV 26241, or to the Valley Head United Methodist Church 21150 Seneca Trail, Valley Head, WV 26294.
