Sarah Irene Vanscoy passed from this life on July 10, 2020, at Holbrook on The Hill in Buckhannon. She was a former resident of Elkins.
She was born Jan. 6, 1944, a daughter of the late Ottis and Hazel Mae Smith Vanscoy.
She attended Orlena United Methodist Church as a youth. She was a member of the Candy Stripers with the Davis Memorial Hospital as a teenager. She attended the schools of Randolph County and was later a Foster Grandparent in the Randolph County Schools. Jennings Randolph Elementary was the last school that she worked with.
She is survived by twin daughters, Kelly Barnett of Bend, Oregon, and Kimberly and husband Grayson Samples of Lost Creek. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Emma and Amelia Samples of Lost Creek. Also surviving are two brothers, Williard and Charlotte Vanscoy of Fairmont and Willis and Brenda Vanscoy of Elkins; one sister, Lynda Cosner of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Kathy Vanscoy of Lewistown, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Francis and wife Juanita Vanscoy of Elkins, Murrell Vanscoy of Lewistown, Ohio, a brother-in-law Allen Cosner, and a niece Tammy Cosner Elmore, her paternal grandparents, Iddo and Cornelia Isner Vanscoy and her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Martha Lindsey Smith.
At her request, Sarah's body was donated to West Virginia University Human Gift Registry. At her request, there will be no funeral service.
