Jearl B. “Big Daddy” Taylor, 85, a resident of Jimtown, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, in Mansfield Place at Philippi.
He was born Aug. 10, 1935, at Jimtown, a son of the late Willard and Anna Nola Miller Taylor.
He was married in 1977 to Donna Jean Shahan, who survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Roxanne Riffle and husband Ralph, Jane Woods and husband Leroy, Sue Kitzmiller and husband Rick, all of Buckhannon and Rebecca Titchenal and husband Robert of Bridgeport. Five grandchildren, Candice Riffle of Winfield, Chris Woods and wife Lori of Buckhannon, Eric Riffle and wife Cheryl of Big Spring, Texas, Justyn Tomblyn of Los Angeles, California, Amy Thorne and husband Andrew of Pace, Florida. Five great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and one special nephew, Eric Canfield and wife Penny of Nestorville, also survive.
“Big Daddy” was a truck driver most of his life. He drove for Alcon for many years prior to 2000 when he opened his own trucking company. He was a lifelong farmer who cut and baled hay for other people. He volunteered with the Phillips Cemetery for many years and was a Protestant by faith.
“Big Daddy’s” request for cremation will be honored. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown. Pastor Julie Davis will officiate and inurnment will follow. The use of masks and social distancing is recommended at the gravesite.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Phillips Cemetery, in care of William Phillips, 1155 Buckhannon Pike, Coalton, WV 26257.
