On Jan. 8, 1984, in Elkins, she was married to Kenneth Russell Cobb, who preceded her in death in July 2020. She was also preceded in death by her newborn sister, Carroll Victoria Eakin.

Surviving are two daughters, Kaitlyn Victoria Shaffer of Morgantown and Karen Alyssa Cobb of Elkins; one grandchild, Thea Shaffer; one son-in-law, S. Cole Shaffer; one sister, Kathryn Eakin of Elkins; one brother, Robert W. Eakin of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Sandra Cobb; two nieces, Stephanie Van den Bulk and Jane Cobb; one nephew, Brett Cobb; and multiple cousins.

Ruth’s love for her family was undeniable and she had a heart of gold, never hesitating to do what she could to help someone in need. She thoroughly enjoyed her children and watching them in various concerts, parades, plays, and sporting events over many years. She loved to cook, research, and try new recipes and particularly enjoyed cooking something delicious to share with others. A lifelong Elkins resident, Ruth truly enjoyed the local flavor of the community and relished in a trip to the farmer’s market, a live music event, dining out at a local restaurant, or shopping the local merchants. Ruth’s request to be cremated will be honored. A joint memorial service for Ruth and her husband, Ken, will be announced at a later date. Family asks for memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to be made to a local charity or non-profit organization of choice but does offer the following suggestions: Randolph County Humane Society, Catholic Charities WV, or the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center Memorial Fund. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Ruth E. Cobb. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com
