Calvin Keith Bennett

Calvin Keith Bennett, 95, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Friday, April 9, 2021, at his home under the care of Mountain Hospice.

He was born Jan. 10, 1926, at Parsons, West Virginia, a son of the late Chester and Londa White Bennett of Parsons, West Virginia.

On Dec. 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Margaret Wilmoth Bennett, who survives in Elkins. The couple had celebrated 72 years of marriage.

Also surviving are a son, Alan Bennett and wife, Charlotte, of Morgantown, West Virginia, and a daughter, Sherry Bennett Walsh and husband, Mike, of Nolensville, Tennessee.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jeffrey and Frank Basile, Krysta Bennett Whipple, David, Ashley and Stephanie Bennett, and Ryan and Lauren Walsh.

Several great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Michael Bennett; three brothers, Donald, Carlton and Herb; and two sisters, Juanita Quattro and Mildred Mincsik.

Calvin was a graduate of Parsons High School and served two years as a Gunner’s Mate in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was employed by Monongahela Power Company in Elkins for 38 years and retired as supervisor in the substation department in 1988.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elkins having served on the finance committee, pastor parish relations committee and board of trustees as well as institutional representative for Boy Scout Troop 88 of the church.

Calvin loved the outdoors, fishing, boating, hiking and especially interacting with the countless wildlife that makes their home at the Bennett’s river cabin.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Calvin. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, 4-H Club Road, Beverly, West Virginia.

Rev. Brian L. Seders and Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the United States Navy, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3647.

Interment will follow. Masks and social distancing is recommended for everyone attending the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Calvin
