Donald Earl ‘Benny’ Edinger

Donald Earl “Benny” Edinger was born in Buffalo, New York, on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1946, and left this world on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, after a long fight with dementia.

He passed peacefully in his sleep and is now reunited with his father, Clifford Carl Edinger; his mother, Leila Sharon Burns Edinger; his older brother, Harry Market; and his aunt and uncle, Rebecca and Earl Edinger; along with his sweet dogs, Sammy and Poochie.

Don was an avid outdoorsman who loved being in nature. Those who know Don will always remember how he loved fishing, hiking, hunting mushrooms, exploring the caves of West Virginia and surrounding states, climbing, repelling, mountain biking, riding his motorcycle, camping and photographing nature. Don took care of many stray cats and leaves behind his dog, Angel; and younger brother, Leslie Vern Edinger.

He was a Vietnam Veteran and a graduate of both Elkins High School and Glenville State College, where he studied Forestry. He also served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Western Canada. He was a lifelong member of the LDS Church. Over the years Don was employed by WVU, the Elkins Country Club Golf Course, US Forestry Service and he retired from Colonial Mills Lumber Yard in Dailey, West Virginia.

Don loved spending his retirement years enjoying his hobbies with his friends, nephews and nieces. He was known for his kindness and generosity to friends and strangers alike. Don is loved by many and leaves behind memories of adventures in the minds and hearts of all who was blessed to know him in this life.

Donald’s request for cremation was honored.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on the Beverly Five Lane in Elkins, West Virginia, on Friday, January 20, at 4 p.m. Graveside services will be held at American Legion Little Arlington Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m., where members of HW Daniels Post 29, The American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the WV National Guard Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
