Dr. Roy A. Moss

Dr. Roy A. Moss, 87, a resident of Parsons, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1935, in Cederville, West Virginia.

He was one of 11 children of the late Earnie and Clara Beall Moss.

On Aug. 10, 1963, he was united in marriage to his loving wife, best friend and devoted caregiver of 59 years, Marsha Kay Wiant Moss, who resides in Parsons.

Also surviving are two children, son, Jim Moss and wife, Susan, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and daughter, Belinda Moss of Morgantown; and daughter-in-law, Danielle Moore and husband, Dale, of Parsons.

He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Megan (Mike) Delaney, Sydney (Nate) Brady, Morgan Moss, Jordan Moss and Jayden Moore.

He was proceeded in death by two sons, Darrin L. Moss and John M. Moss; and seven brothers and sisters.

All who knew Dr. Moss, fondly known as Poppy, loved him and his sweet, kind hearted, gentle nature. He loved his life, spending time with his family, and lived a life of gratitude. When faced with adversity, he never complained and used each experience to help strengthen others. He attended First Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and was a faithful prayer warrior.

Dr. Moss, was an Army Veteran, and earned three Masters Degrees and a Doctorate in Education. He began his teaching career in a one-room school house. Throughout his extensive career in education, he served as a school counselor, a school psychologist, a teacher and a principal in the WV public school system. He was an Assistant Superintendent and a Superintendent for the Tucker County school system. He loved children and made a positive impact on many lives. He found true joy in serving others and put their needs before his own both personally and professionally.

In lieu of flowers, the Moss family requests donations be made in his honor to the Tucker County EMS and asks that you consider being a blood donor.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, Dr. Moss will be moved to First Baptist Church at Parsons, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour.

The Rev. Gregory Smith will officiate and the committal service will follow from the church.

Graveside services will be private.
