Golden Hubert ‘Goldie’ Day

Golden Hubert “Goldie” Day, 93, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at his home under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.
He was born March 18, 1929, at Kerens, West Virginia, a son of the late Jay Golden Day and the late Glossie Ketterman Day.
On Jan. 5, 1950, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to Freda Marie Ware Day, who preceded him in death Nov. 22, 2007.
Surviving is one son, Kenneth G. Day of Bloomington, Indiana; and one daughter, Diana Marie Day of Morgantown, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Melodee (Doug) Wolford, Tammie (Brian) Rizzio, James (Amy) Murphy, Wesley (Alice) Day and Rachel Day; 10 great- grandchildren, Josh (Heather) Hedrick, DJ (Paige) Wolford, Ashley Wolford, Lexi Day, Sydney Day, Caedmon Day, Kelsey Day, Michelle Murphy, Kyle Murphy and Nick Rizzio; and two great-great grandchildren, Clarissa and Avery Hedrick.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Tina Phillips, Twila Kerns, Marie Teter, Loretta Hart and Lora Hornick; and one great-great granddaughter, Madison Hedrick.
“Goldie” was a graduate of Elkins High School. He served with the West Virginia Army National Guard for over 34 years, retiring at the rank of First Sergeant. He was honored as a recipient of the National Merit Award for service to the Army National Guard and was employed as a Custodian at the former Elkins National Guard Armory for many years prior to retiring.
“Goldie” was a member of the Orlena United Methodist Church at Gilman.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman, where full Military Honors will be presented at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program.
