John Kenneth ‘Butch’ Kyle

John Kenneth “Butch” Kyle, 70, a lifelong resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital of an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Kenneth J. and Melba G. Isenhart Kyle. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Goodnow, Gladys White and infant sisters, Emma Jean and Betty Lou.

“Butch” is survived by brothers, Howard (Helmi) Kyle, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Frank Kyle of Kerens, Jeff (Billie) Kyle, of Simpsonville Kentucky, Allen (Sue Curtis) Kyle of Montrose and Walter G. Kyle of Montrose; sisters, Patty (Harold) Shepard of Beverly; Sue (Richard) Jones, of Louisville Kentucky; Ardith (Sam Morrison) Turner, of Elkins, Millie (Larry Shipman) Hendon, of Elkins. Surviving children are Aaron Harner and family and Christina Kyle and family as well as children of his late partner, Bobbie August, Leanna August Sanders of Ohio and Shane (Shelly) August of Elkins. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Tiger.

He will be mourned by a great number of nieces and nephews, extended family members and countless friends he has touched over the years. He could fix anything and was our “go to guy.” When he was told “I love you,” his reply was “I love me too.” He was stubborn but would do anything for you. He was a master carpenter, meticulous and precise, in his craft and a top-notch general handyman.

At his request, “Butch’s” remains were donated to WVU Anatomical Human Gift Registry. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
