Margaret Cox ‘Peg’ Rector
RECTOR
Margaret Cox “Peg” Rector, 93, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, 2023, at the WV Caring Hospice Center at Elkins, West Virginia, surrounded by her loving family. She had been in declining health although death was unexpected.
She was born Sunday, March 10, 1929, at Huttonsville, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Jacob Albert and Bernice Elizabeth Knutti Cox.
On Feb. 25, 1955, at Monterey, Virginia, she was married to John Edward Benjamin Rector, who preceded her in death during 1994.
Surviving are one son, John Jacob “Jay” Rector and wife, Deborah, of Elkins; four nieces, Barbara Seaman and husband, David, of Georgia, Nancy Taylor of Morgantown, Susie Raezer and husband, George, of Florida, and Virginia Kreiger and husband, Mark, of Texas; three nephews, John Cox and significant other, Luan Collisson, of Washington, Michael Johnson and wife, Jessie, of Elkins, and Gary Ryman and wife, Karen, of Texas; four first cousins, Emil Knutti, John Knutti, Elizabeth Knutti Swecker and Joyce Knutti Sperow; two special caregivers, Donna Lemasters and Jeff Taylor; and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Preceding her in death are one daughter, Elizabeth Hill “Beth” Rector; one grandson, Jeremiah Rector; one brother, Dr. Thomas Hill Cox; one sister, Dorothy Elizabeth “Dot” Taylor; one nephew, William Ryman; one niece, Elizabeth Sellers; and several cousins.
She was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1946, and was a 1950 graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in education. She started her teaching career in Clay County, West Virginia, in 1950 for one year before spending the remainder of her career in Elkins. She had taught at Elkins Junior High School and Elkins High School, teaching home economics and for a period of time, Biology. She taught for 34 years, retiring in 1989.
She was a 50-plus year member of the Elkins Woman’s Club, was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Presbyterian Women and the Randolph County Retired Teachers Association.
She enjoyed photography and was a talented piano player. She loved West Virginia and enjoyed taking drives through the mountains. She faithfully attended the annual Knutti reunion, enjoyed being with people and especially entertaining friends and family at her home.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home, Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Doctor Peter A. Vial will officiate and interment will follow at the Beverly Cemetery at Beverly, West Virginia.
