Nellie Marie Howell Channell

Nellie was born Thursday, Sept. 1, 1949, in Beverly, a daughter of the late Peter Vyrle Howell and Grace Ramsey Howell.

On Aug. 20, 1971, in Oakland, Maryland, she married Gary “Sarge” Lynn Channell, who survives at home.

Also left to cherish her memory are two children, Christal Channell-Jordan and husband, Chris, of Elkins, and Gary Channell Jr. and companion, Amanda Weber, of Elkins; one grandson, Matthew Jordan; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Janice Taylor of Elkins; and two sisters-in-law, Patty White of Canton, Ohio, and Frances McCoy of Craigsville.

Preceding her in death besides her parents was one infant son, Shawn Dale Channell; and two brothers, Pete and Silas Howell.

Nellie was a 1970 graduate of Elkins High School. After high school, she had been employed at Reidbord Brothers. For a number of years, she was employed at the Elkins Stockyard as a stockyard attendant and an auctioneer. Later in life, she worked as a caregiver for the late Hugh and Dorothy Nestor.

Nellie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family above all else. She enjoyed playing cornhole and in the 1970s was a state champion for pitching horseshoes. Nellie was Christian by faith and loved the Lord.

Visitation will be held at the Elkins Family Worship Center Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery.
