Vera J. ‘Jean’ Arbogast

She was born Oct. 15, 1932, at Harman, a daughter of the late Earnest Hayes Wolford and Sarra Alma Huffman Wolford.

On June 18, 1979, she was married to Russell V. Arbogast Jr., who preceded her in death Oct. 24, 2009. Vera is survived by one son, David L. Bennett and wife, Grace, of Onego, West Virginia; and one daughter, Jennie Shifflett and husband, Doug, of Harman.

One brother, Clark Wolford of Harman; three granddaughters, Jessica Thompson and husband, Art, CJ Bennett and Lacy Dolly and husband, Scot; and one step-grandson, Jase Shifflett; one step-son, Randall Arbogast and wife Sandra; three step-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters and a loving granddaughter, Danielle Marie Raines, who met her at the gates of Heaven, and other family members.

Mrs. Arbogast was a graduate of Harman High School and had worked at Hanover Shoe, Hedrick’s 4-U Restaurant and K-Mart grill and store until her retirement. She was always outdoors, enjoyed mowing the yard, tending garden and working on the farm with the chickens and horses. Jean enjoyed crocheting doilies and loved spending hours making items for her family and friends. She was a member of the Harman Presbyterian Church.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be at held at 2 p.m. on Friday, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Bob Yothers officiating.

Interment will follow at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Davis Health System Foundation, P. O. Box 1188, Elkins, WV 26241 or Harman Senior Center, P. O. Box 245, Harman, WV 26270 in memory of Mrs. Arbogast.
