James Page ‘Jim’ Douglas

DOUGLAS

Psalms 1:1-3 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of Sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

This was the favorite Bible verse of James Page “Jim” Douglas. A scripture and virtues he tried to live by.

Jim was born Jan. 27, 1946, at Buckhannon, West Virginia, the son of the late Dayle P. and Lillian Merle Burr Douglas.

He was born again in the Christian faith on Feb. 6, 1970, at Hart Chapel Church.

He told many people over the past several years that on Sept. 10, 1972, he stole the prize of Randolph County by marrying Elaine Bonnell, who survives. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2022.

In addition to Elaine, Jim is survived by three sisters, Rita Karen Douglas, Pamela Jill Douglas (Lee Martin) and Amy Jane Douglas (Kris Hunnicut), all of Lexington, Virginia.

He had a very close and loving relationship with his siblings and they have spent every Christmas together since birth.

Growing up in Buckhannon they were known as the Douglas Four.

Also surviving are his children of whom he is particularly proud of their life’s character and successes, Dale Leeson and wife, Alice, Sherry Kyle, Patty Harvey, Velora Winn and husband, Mike, and Katina Elbon and husband, Rob.

Also two wonderful god daughters, Wendy Phillips Jones and husband, Kevin, and Becky Phillips Wentz and husband, Jeremiah. These are the children of our heart and a wonderful blessing from God.

After his retirement in 2000, he enjoyed tremendous playtime with his grandchildren. Having a heart to teach life lessons and living skills, he spent time with them four wheeling (ATV), exploring the woods, hunting, fishing, playing in the streams, building lean-tos and hiking.

Grandchildren are Lily, Micah, Gage, Jaide, Zack, Lance, Zayne, Jared, Justin, Isiah, Malachi, Regan and Cambrie.

Then came along two great-grandchildren, Barrett and Ella.

Family has been his greatest joy. Jim has three cousins who have been like brothers to him, John and Joe Malcomb and Terry Gould. He feels he has had a wonderful life and had great love and appreciation for his many, many friends.

Jim was a building contractor and a land developer, but his service to the Lord, along with his wife, has been a call from God that gave him direction and the purpose for a life well lived.

This obituary was prepared by Jim.

An addition by family:

Jim gave the eulogy for his father and said he was an ordinary man in the eyes of the world, but to his family he was an extra ordinary man. We feel the same about our brother, husband, dad and papa. He was definitely an extra ordinary man.

Jim’s wish for cremation was granted.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Summit Church, 49 Martin Street, Elkins, West Virginia, (former American Mountain Theater building).

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, from the Summit Church, with Pastor Ron Phillips officiating.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation to the Summit Food Pantry, 302 Goff Street, Elkins, WV, 26241 or Summitelkins.com/give in memory of Jim.

Cremation services were provided by the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins for James Page “Jim” Douglas. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
