Frances Dee Clark, 87, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Lavender Fields Assisted Living in Beverly, West Virginia, under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.
She was born Nov. 14, 1935, at Long Branch, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Alfred Pettry and the late Frances Lively Pettry.
On May 30, 1957, at Pax, West Virginia, she married William Eugene "Bill" Clark, who preceded her in death March 5, 2014.
Surviving is one daughter, Carol Lee Holt and husband, Wayne, of Elkins; one brother, Robert Pettry of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; one sister, Nancy Wilson of Danville, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Nick and Jordan.
Also preceding her in death was her first born daughter, Lisa Lane Clark; and her youngest brother, James Pettry.
Mrs. Clark was a graduate of Concord College and was employed as a librarian for many years prior to retiring from Elkins High School. Twenty five years ago, she received the gift of life through a liver transplant. She survived many complications following the transplant and prayed to live long enough to see her grandchildren graduate from school and begin their careers. Her prayers were answered and she achieved many milestones throughout the years following the transplant. She loved to play golf and remained active for many years reading, playing bridge and volunteering at the Davis Medical Center Cancer Center.
She was a member of the Women's Club of Elkins, the Red Hat Society, the Randolph County Association of Retired School Employees and the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
At Mrs. Clark's request, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mrs. Clark.
