A Mother holds her children's hands for a while, their hearts forever …
With great sorrow, the children of Margaret Ann Gear Winans, announce the unexpected passing of their beloved mother on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown. At the time of Marg's death, she resided with her daughter Sherri and Matt Davis and family in Elkins.
Marg was born to Howard Hall Gear and Dolly Madison (Jack) Gear on Oct. 3, 1945, in Elkins West Virginia. They have preceded her in death.
She spent her childhood years in Elkins, growing up with two sisters, Janet Wolfe (husband Jim) and Vickie Kelley (husband Art). Both survive.
On Jan. 21, 1966, in Talbott, Marg married her love.
Arnett "Leon" Winans took her hand, they said their vows and began their life together. After living in Talbott for some time, they moved to Elkins. Together they began a family, and a life that included many friends. From dancing on Saturday nights to camping in the summer, to being great neighbors, they made many memories.
Leon passed away on Feb. 26, 2001, leaving Marg with those great memories.
Marg is also preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Meretia Pauline Mollahan Winans, from the Talbott Community.
Together they raised three children who survive.
Cecil Winans and family; son, Tristan and wife, Katelyn, and their son, Greyson, and daughter Gabby; and son, Ean Winans.
Joyce Henline and family; daughter, Ashley Sfameni and husband, Michael, and their daughter Makenna; son, Justin Pennington, son, Dylan Hamrick and his family, Jordan and Chayleigh.
Sherri Davis and husband, Matt, and family; Cory Lambert with his son, Briar, and daughter, Daicy, son, Brayden and daughter, Hannah.
Marg had a love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren like no other. She was affectionately known as Mom and Grandma Marg and was often called "my person" by her son, Cecil. She wore those titles proudly and didn't hesitate to let others know how special they all were. It must also be known that she had a four-legged friend that meant the world to her. He was her companion in this life and her side kick. He was known as Mo and adored by Marg, maybe even a little spoiled.
Making friends came easy to Marg. She had two special friends from the Petersburg area that she shared a lot of her time with, Nette Ours and Chris Crites, who will miss her tremendously. Marg was a member of the Moorefield Assembly of God Church in Moorefield, West Virginia, that she attended when spending time with her friends in that area.
Marg was also a member of Vision Worship Church in Elkins, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, volunteered at Davis Memorial Hospital years back and loved playing bingo. For most that know Marg, she was adventurous. Always liked trying new things. She was known as a kind, feisty, thoughtful lady with a big smile and an even bigger heart with a hand to always help.
Many have said that they know Marg is with Leon now, dancing together, again.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Dewaine Corley officiating. Marg's request for cremation will be honored following the service.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Margaret Ann Gear Winans.
