Mark Brent Armentrout

Mark Brent Armentrout passed away peacefully at WV Caring Hospice on April 6, 2023.
He was born on May 19, 1954, to the late Keith M. and Vera M. Armentrout.
Surviving is his only sister, Karen Anderson, of Elkins; his niece, Kecia Kona-Hahn of Elkins; whose loving care comforted him in the last four months of his life. Also surviving is his grand-niece, Kera Jay Hahn, of Elkins; and grand-nephews, Keiffer and Micaiah Hahn of New Jersey. He is also survived by his beloved cats, Baby Cat, Scottie and Sammie.
He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1972 with high honors and from Alderson Broaddus College in 1977 with a B.A. in Political Science. He received a full scholarship to the college of his choice from the Social Security Administration with the stipulation that he work for them for at least two years. He spent his college summers working for Social Security as a trainee and remained their employee as a claims representative, retiring after 30 years of service. This was the only job he ever had.
He was a talented pianist and organist and played for several Elkins and Buckhannon churches before and after retirement. Even in the last months of his life, he played the organ for Grace Lutheran Church in Elkins. He was an active member of the Elkins Kiwanis Club and will be remembered for participating in their Corn Dog Wagon during the Mountain State Forest Festival.
He was a member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins and served as session clerk for several years and always volunteered to help with their fund-raising buckwheat pancake breakfast in the autumn.
Mark was a long-time member of Elkins Lodge No. 108 A.F. & A.M. He served as a poll worker during elections for many years.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, he will be moved to the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Peter A. Vial will officiate. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bridgeport Cemetery at Bridgeport, West Virginia, where Elkins Lodge No. 108 A.F.& A.M. will conduct Masonic Graveside Rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 or the Humane Society of Harrison County, 2450 Saltwell Road, Shinnston, WV 26431 in memory of Mark.
