Monnah Mae Johnson Butcher

Monnah Mae Johnson Butcher, 78, a resident of the Clover Run Community, passed from this life Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the home of her niece in Kerens. She had been in declining health.
Monnah was born Monday, May 15, 1944, in Elkins, a daughter of the late George D. Johnson and Iva “Ivie” Carr Johnson.
On May 16, 1964, in Elkins, she was married to Donald Nelson Butcher, who survives. They had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Also left to cherish Monnah’s memory is one son, Donald Dale Butcher and wife, Sandra, of the Pheasant Run Community; two daughters, Brenda L. Haddix and husband, William, of Parsons, and Linda D. Lipscomb and husband, Edward, of Montrose; eight grandchildren, Jessica R., Mercedes, Cheyenne, Kodey, Edward, Melissa, Emmalee and Jessica H.; five great grandchildren, Aiden, Karter, Nora, Ava and Peyton; and several nieces and nephews.
Monnah is the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Frank Johnson and Ralph Delbert Johnson.
Monnah was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1963. She was a popular waitress in the area, having worked at Sis’ Restaurant in Beverly from 1979 to 1981, and then at Scottie’s Restaurant of Elkins from 1981 until her retirement in 2006. She enjoyed cooking, watching TV and visits from her children and grandchildren.
Monnah’s request for cremation will be honored.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Elkins Memorial Gardens on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 1 p.m. Rev. Rick Price will officiate.
