Coretha Jean Smith

She was born on July 16, 1937, in Walkersville, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Charles Lee and Mary Mildred Hull Rogers. On April 19, 1957, she was united in marriage to Hollen Gene Smith, who preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1995.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Donald Smith and David Gene “Grubby” Smith; and one brother, Robert Rogers.

She is survived by one daughter, Darla and husband, Delmar Tenney, of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Chris Smith, Jessica Smith, Jackie Cutlip and companion, Mark Hinzman, and Brittany Smith; six great-grandchildren, Dylan and Drew Hinzman, Ridge Smith, Gavin Shaver, Serenidi Smith and Brendan Smith; two sisters, Elizabeth and husband, Worthy Hall, of Lost Creek, and Mary and husband, Jerry Hannon, of Buckhannon; one brother Charles “Junior” Rogers and wife, Brenda, of Weston; and several nieces and nephews.

Jean attended the Full Gospel Church in Buckhannon. She loved travelling and playing cards, especially hosting her Thursday card group. She supported the Wendling’s Warriors Relay for Life team and was an enthusiastic fan of her twin great-grandsons’ ball teams.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to caregiver Mae Carpenter and WV Hospice.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. The funeral will be held from the funeral chapel on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Chad Lewis officiating.

Interment will follow in the Heavner Cemetery.
