Dr. Julia Agnes Hartman

Dr. Julia Agnes Hartman, 90, a resident of Montrose, West Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at her home under the care of Mountain Hospice.

She was born Feb. 7, 1933, at Spangler, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Frances Foor Wallace.

On March 28, 1956, at Philippi, West Virginia, she married Carl Lee Hartman, who survives at Montrose.

Also surviving is one son, Jeffrey Hartman and wife, Jessica, of Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania; four daughters, Caren Thompson and husband, David, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Sherry Bartlett and husband, James, of Montrose, West Virginia, Susan Abbott of Elkins and Robin Riggleman and husband, Todd, of Elkins.

Eight grandchildren, Scott Thompson, Shane Heckler, Erin Stone, Zachary Abbott, Garrett and Kyle Riggleman and Jaden and Jordan Hartman; great grandchildren, Gavin Heckler, Ashton Heckler, Kaitlynn Stone, Trent Stone and Hadley Riggleman also survive.

Also preceding her in death was her maternal grandmother, Edith P. Foor; and six half-brothers.

Dr. Hartman obtained a PhD in Nursing from West Virginia University.

She was the Chair of the Nursing Department at Davis & Elkins College for many years and appointed emeritus at the time of her retirement.

She was a member of the Mercy Chapel United Methodist Church at Montrose, the United Methodist Women of the church and served as a Sunday School Teacher.

She was a member of the Theta Tau Sorority and was honored by receiving the Lois Latham Award for teaching excellence at Davis & Elkins College.

Friends were received Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 22, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Leading Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery at Montrose.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Chapel United Methodist Church, PO Box 53, Montrose, WV 26283 in memory of Dr. Hartman.
