Edna Jewell Galford
GALFORD
Edna Jewell Galford, 89, of the Brookhaven Community, Morgantown, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Mon Health Medical Center.
Jewell was born in Slatyfork, West Virginia, on Aug. 27, 1933, the daughter of John and Martha Sage Tumblin.
Jewell graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in 1951, with special interests in Drama Club and basketball.
Jewell retired from WVU as an office manager in the counseling department in 1996. Jewell enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved bowling (high game of 288), square dancing and dancing of any kind, was a very active Brookhaven United Methodist Church member, and hosted a weekly bible study for several years.
Survivors include her two children, Ed (Winnie) Galford of Slatyfork, West Virginia and Debbie LaBrozzi of Bradford, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Justin (Katie) LaBrozzi of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Brandon (Cara) LaBrozzi of Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Ryan (Paige) LaBrozzi of Horseheads, New York; step-grandchildren, Casey Hughes of Morgantown and Greer Hughes of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren, Lily, Mason, Jack, Ellie, Collins, Reese and Christian.
Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Phyllis Tumblin of Morgantown; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Jewell was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles “Charlie” Galford, in 1973; second husband, Meritt Walls, in 2019; son-in-law, Rich LaBrozzi; sister, Judith (Jimmy) Jones; and brothers, Gene and John Tumblin.
Family and friends will gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 3 p.m. until time of services at 5 p.m., with Lay Servant D.J. Utt officiating.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the Mingo Cemetery, Mingo, West Virginia, in Randolph County.
