Mabel Pauline Williams Hovatter, 86, a resident of the Hannahsville Community near St. George, West Virginia, departed this life early Saturday morning, May 13, 2023, at Cortland Acres at Thomas, West Virginia. She had been in declining health.
She was born Monday, Sept. 28, 1936, at Grafton, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Cecil Ray and Ada Pearl Swisher Williams.
On Sept. 23, 1978, at Elkins, West Virginia, she was married to Scott Hovatter, who preceded her in death Sept. 17, 2008.
Surviving are one sister, Thelma Williams Kochenderfer of Birmingham, Alabama; two nephews, Ricky and Donald; seven nieces, Tammy, Ruby, Judy, Teresa, Lisa, BJ and Cindy; multiple great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Dorsey Ray Williams Sr. and Robert Woodrow Williams; and one sister, Richmond “Richie” Bell Nestor; and one nephew, Dorsey Ray Williams Jr.
She attended the One- Room School at Bull Run, had worked for Heck’s Department Store (for many years), the St. George Clinic, Parsons Family Dollar, many local restaurants, and as a Caregiver to many. She had a love for animals particularly cats and her favorite was Buffy, who comforted her after the loss of her husband. She was a member of the Parsons Nazarene Church, where she was a former children’s Sunday School teacher and a willing worker.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Steve Morrow will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Parsons Nazarene Church Children’s Ministry, 104 Cheat Valley Highway, Parsons, WV 26287 or Tucker County Animal Shelter, 586 Brooklyn Heights, Parsons, WV 26287.
