Michael Benton ‘Mike’ Williams
WILLIAMS
Michael Benton “Mike” Williams, 85, a resident of Elkins, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
He was born Nov. 21, 1937, at Junior, West Virginia, a son of the late Milford “Buck” Williams and the late Mary Kittle Williams.
On Aug. 16, 1958, he married Doris Jean Corcoran, who preceded him in death Feb. 21, 2021.
Surviving is one brother, Jeff Williams and Nan, of Conway, South Carolina and Belington, West Virginia; one brother-in-law, Ray Corcoran and Becky, both of whom assisted Mike tremendously following the death of his wife Doris. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Blake, Adam, John, Ron, Peggy, Matt, Teresa, Jackie and Jonathan; and lifelong friends, Billy and Margaret Swisher.
Mike attended grade school in Junior, West Virginia, and graduated from Belington High School in 1955 where he played trumpet in the high school band, sang in the school chorus and enjoyed acting in school plays.
Later in 1955, Mike enlisted in the United States Navy with his friend Bob Reger. Although visually impaired, Mike was employed for many years by Allegheny Lumber and Davis Memorial Hospital. He also worked part time at Family Dental Practice in Elkins, often walking or riding his bicycle to work.
Mike’s passions were roller skating and dancing with his wife, Doris. He was an avid fan of West Virginia University football and basketball and loved decorating for Christmas.
Growing up in Junior, West Virginia, Mike attended the Methodist Episcopal Church with his mother, Mary, as she set a good example as a Christian person. He was a member of the Elkins First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed serving as a basketball coach for the youth groups of the church.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny Paul Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery near Cravensdale.
Memorial contributions may be made to any local Lions Club Eyesight Committee in memory of Mike.
