Rosa Lea ‘Rosie’ Sutton Dulaney

Rosa Lea “Rosie” Sutton Dulaney, 88, a resident of Pickens, West Virginia, passed away Monday evening, May 8, 2023, at her home.

Born in Helvetia on July 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William and Armeda Blyss Miller Sutton.

She attended the Helvetia and Pickens schools.

On July 5, 1951, in Elkins, she married Charles Otto “Charlie” Dulaney, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2016.

Also preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Leonard Griffith; and her siblings, Wellington Joe Sutton, Bertha Jeanne Williams, George William Sutton, Elizabeth Leona “Betty” Hicks, Evelyn Virginia Sutton, Anna Louise Sutton, Jessie Marie Summerfield, Franklin Gayle Sutton and Leonard Myron Sutton.

Surviving are three daughters, Sue (Brian) Waugh of Dailey, Phyllis Griffith of Valley Bend and Ida (Les) Cecchini of Millersport, Ohio; three sons, Henry Dulaney of Pickens, Mark (Pam) Dulaney of Concord, North Carolina, and Charles (Diane) Dulaney of Czar; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Sandra Dulaney of Union, Ohio, Frieda Marie Drummond of Oakland, Maryland, and Kris Moore of Gallipolis, Ohio; brother-in-law Edward (Sue) Dulaney of Canton, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

A member and Elder of the Pickens Presbyterian Church, she held the offices of Treasurer and Clerk of the Session. She was a 69-year member of the Holly Temple 78 of the Pythian Sisters. As a founding member of the Pickens Improvement Historical Society, she volunteered at the Maple Syrup Festival, curated the Cunningham-Roberts Museum and with her sister, Jeanne Williams, established the veteran’s photo display at the former Pickens show hall. Rosie’s legendary chicken pot pies and chiffon cakes were fixtures at community gatherings in Pickens.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from the funeral home, with Rev. Charla Koerner officiating.

Interment will follow in the Pickens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Pickens Historical Society, P.O. Box 94, Pickens, WV, 26230 in memory of Rosie.
