Stephen Neal ‘Steve’ Ogden

Stephen Neal “Steve” Ogden, 63, a resident of Montrose, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Stephen was born May 3, 1960, in Harman, West Virginia, to Halene Sponaugle Ogden, who resides in Alpena, and the late Custer Stratton “Strat” Ogden Jr.

Also surviving is his loving companion of 36 years, Carolyn Hartley, who resides at their home in Montrose; three daughters, Amanda Hinchman and husband, Eddie, of Montrose, Danielle Hartley of Montrose and Tasha Hartley and companion, Marcus Fortney, of Montrose; three grandchildren, Sara Hinchman, Hunter and Stella Fortney; a nephew whom he thought of as his son, Mark A. “Pudder” Hartley of Kerens; and four brothers, Conley Ogden of Elkins, Eddie Ogden and wife, Brenda, of Buckhannon, Terry Ogden and wife, Debbie, of Bowden, Theodore B. Ogden and wife, Nettie, of Bowden; and a half-brother, David Bennett of Chillicothe, Ohio.

Also preceding him in death in addition to his father was one sister, Sherry Ogden; and two half-sisters, Sue Ogden Bigley and Helen Ogden Soval.

Stephen graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1978. He then began his career at Creed Oil in Elkins and later as a underground coal miner until 1989.

At this time, along with his brothers, he purchased the former Siron Trucking in Montrose. He ran the trucking company from 1989 until 2003 at which time the business was sold. He also owned and operated C & S Enterprises from April 2001 until his death, which provided for the need of heavy equipment to the area.

In March of 2010, he began working for the United States Forest Service as an Engineering Equipment Operator until April of 2022. He then retired in June of 2022 to continue his favorite hobby of all time, farming. In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his three grandchildren.

Steve’s request for cremation will be honored.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
