Mr. Lonnie Lee Moore Sr., 75, a resident of the Chestnut Flats Community near Belington departed this life Friday evening July 21, 2023, in the United Hospital Center at Bridgeport. He had been declining in health but death was unexpected.

He was born Feb. 1, 1948, at Belington, West Virginia, a son of the late Bertsell and Laura Marie Poling Moore Hammonds.

On Jan. 14, 1974, he was united in marriage to the former Linda Jean Suder, who survives in Belington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Lonnie Lee Moore Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Washington, West Virginia, Clayton Moore of Buckhannon and Josh Moore of Elkins; one daughter, Taylor Moore of Belington; and one brother; Hobert C. “Sonny” Moore. Additional survivors include three grandchildren, Lucas, Nathan and Caleb Moore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and several step-brothers and step-sisters and a step-father; Grover C. Hammonds.

Lonnie was a graduate of the Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1967 and was also a graduate of the Fairmont State University receiving a Bachelor’s degree. He was a member of the Belington Church of Christ and was a founding member of the Belington Emergency Squad. He also was a city council member and worked for Kane and Keyser in Belington.

In the 1970s, he worked at Valley Camp Coal Mines and then Kitt Energy in Philippi. More recently he was employed by Valley Supply Company in Elkins as a supply clerk manager from which he retired. He was a volunteer Fireman and a Republican candidate for the House of Delegates, putting the Republican party in the county in contention for the state delegate seat and was very supportive of the West Virginias for Life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Thursday July 28, 202,3 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday July 28, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Evangelist Mike Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington.
