Rita Elizabeth Arbaugh

She was born Aug. 16, 1961, at Elkins, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Shelva “Sis” Cross and Ronald L. Cross of Beverly, West Virginia.

She was a store manager of 7-11, and worked at Canaan Valley Lodge. She was a member of the Whitmer United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School.

On Sept. 7, 1977, she married Stephenson “Steve” Arbaugh, who preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2022. A grandson, Caleb Steven Luke Arbaugh, preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2019; and a brother, Ronald Cross and a sister, Edna Cross, also predeceased her.

Surviving are two daughters, Monica Arbaugh, (husband, Donnie Mcle) of Philippi, West Virginia, Jessica Runion (husband, Preston “P.J.”) of Broadway, Virginia; three grandchildren, Raquel Rice (husband, Fred), Kayanna Rudy and Preston S. Runion; three sisters, Paula Teter (husband, Delbert) of Whitmer, Greta Nelson (husband, Ronnie) of Whitmer and Rhonda Teter (husband, the late Wes Teter) of Whitmer; and a number of nieces and nephews and her Sunday School children.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Whitmer United Methodist Church, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29.

Interment will be at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer.
