Tamela Maria ‘Tammy’ Cross Smith

Mrs. Tamela Maria "Tammy" Cross Smith, 62, a resident of Philippi, departed this life Sunday morning, July 23, 2023, at her home. She had been declining in health but death was unexpected.

She was born on June 21, 1961 at Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Edna Rose Cross. On Dec. 26, 1982, she was united in marriage to Michael William Smith, who survives at their home.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and a whole host of friends.

Tammy was a graduate of the Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1979 and studied at Mount West Community & Technical College and attended the Light of Christ Chapel with her mother Edna. She was employed at the Belington Library for many years, where she was the long-time librarian and director. She was involved in numerous activities with the library. She did so much in the community which would be too numerous to mention.

Tammy also assisted her husband with his business, Smith Appliances and was captain of the "Run For It" in Davis, West Virginia. She loved to research genealogy and even taught classes on how to properly research genealogy. She was an avid reader and loved to help out people anyway she could.

The void her passing left in Barbour County, will be felt for years to come. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Wednesday July 26, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E.
