Texie Maxine (Koon) Thorn, 96, of Tallmansville, West Virginia, died Monday, July 17, 2023, at Crestview Manor in Jane Lew, West Virginia.
She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Queens, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Jesse Koon and Elsie Clapper Franklin.
On May 28, 1949, she married George R. Thorn, who preceded her in death on July 30, 2007.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Cliff, Carl, Eugene "Harry" and Lawrence Koon; one sister, Betty Scott, and one infant sister, Mildred Koon.
She is survived by one son, Eugene Thorn and wife, Sandy, of Tallmansville; one brother, Claude Koon and wife, Donnac, of Salem, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Thorn was a member of the Cornerstone Church of God in Buckhannon, West Virginia, and the Queens United Methodist Church in Queens, West Virginia. Mrs. Thorn was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion, Queens Historical Club and Tallmansville Homemakers Club. She was an excellent cook and avid gardener who loved to keep her family, friends, and neighbors fed. She was also a talented quilter, knitter, sewer and crocheter.
Friends will be received Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, from the funeral home, with Pastor John Darnall officiating. A burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery in Queens, West Virginia.
