William S. "Bill" Armentrout, 92, a former resident of Elkins and more recently a patient in Rosewood Center in Grafton, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the center.
He was born Sept. 5, 1930, at Franklin, West Virginia, a son of the late George Amos Armentrout and the late Maggie Jane Pennington Armentrout.
On Aug. 2, 1955, in Oakland, Maryland, he was married to Frances Marie Chewning, who preceded him in death July 8, 1993.
Surviving is one son, Mark S. Armentrout of Morgantown, West Virginia; daughter-in-law, Joyce Hendricks Armentrout; granddaughters, Katelyn Walkup and husband, Jon, and Amy Armentrout; and great-grandchildren, Jonah and Eli Walkup.
Also preceding him in death were sons, infant Gregory Armentrout and Timothy Armentrout; and daughter, Teresa L. Armentrout; brothers, Melvin, George, Howard and John Armentrout; and sisters, Mary Bowers, Louise Armentrout and Goldie Hartman.
Mr. Armentrout attended the schools of Pendleton County and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was employed in Bridge Construction and Transportation by the West Virginia Department of Highways for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and IOOF Lodge No. 116 of Elkins.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Greg Dodge officiating.
Interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens, where full military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by member of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 1100 S. Davis Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 or the American Cancer Society, 122 South High St., Morgantown, WV 26501 in memory of Mr. Armentrout.
