David ‘Dave’ Michael Zirkle

He was born Thursday, Feb. 3, 1955, at Buckhannon, West Virginia, a son of the late Foreman “Ben” Zirkle and Patricia Marie DeMotto Zirkle. He had never married.

Surviving are two brothers, Richard Leon “Rick” Zirkle and Benny Foreman Zirkle, both of Coalton; aunts, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Ross, Anita Paige Goddin and Mary Jo DeMotto, all of Elkins; one nephew, Jeremy Walker DeMotto of Elkins; one niece, Angela Marie Hart and husband, Jeff, of Elkins; three great-nephews, Nathan, Andrew and Elliott Hart; a very close cousin, Joey Ross of Elkins; and several cousins.

Preceding him in death is one brother, John Anthony “Johnny” DeMotto; and his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Marietta DeMotto, whom he loved dearly.

He was a graduate of Coalton High School with the class of 1974 and was a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church.

As a youth, he enjoyed hanging out with the gang at Girard’s Store at Coalton, playing baseball at Coalton, being an Altar Boy at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and playing Babe Ruth Baseball at Elkins. He dearly loved his dog, “Midnight.”

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had been employed at Roaring Creek Coal Company at Norton, working for his grandfather.

Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, from 9 to 10 a.m., at which time David will be moved to the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church at Coalton, where the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father Jim O’Conner will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, West Virginia.
