James W. Miller Jr.

James W. Miller Jr., 92, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, in the West Virginia Caring Hospice Center in Elkins.

He was born March 11, 1931, at Elkins, a son of the late Rev. James W. Miller Sr. and Georgia Ann Ailstock Miller.

On Dece. 31, 1955, he was married to Delma C. “Bunny” Chewning Miller who preceded him in death Aug. 14, 2010.

Surviving is one son, Brian Miller and wife, Carolyn; and one daughter, Canda Leary and husband, Vince, all of Elkins. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mandi Mallow, Lacey Stephens and husband, Matt, Cody Miller and wife, Paige, and Alicia Miller and boyfriend, Clayton; and nine great-grandchildren, Marissa, Addy, Abby, Kasen, Emersyn, Hadley, Logan, Aiden and Liam.

Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Melissa Miller; three brothers, Robert, Charles and Samuel Miller; and two sisters, Kathleen Rothamen and Grace Roberts.

Mr. Miller was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the 4th Infantry Division in Germany and the Korean War.

He was employed for several years at Sell and Company and later as a security guard at the Bruce Hardwood Plant until his retirement.

He enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader of western books and local newspapers and was always willing to help with other peoples projects. Mr. Miller was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held noon Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Leon Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
