Karen A. Butcher

BUTCHER

Karen A. Butcher, 76, a resident of Beverly, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, in the Davis Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 15, 1946, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Hubert Eldon Poling and the late Icie Dean Poling.

She was married to Alvin Sherwood Butcher, who preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1992.

Surviving is one daughter, Susan Butcher Eaves and Charles of Warrenton, Virginia; and two brothers, Lyda Poling and Sandy of Elkins and Wayne Poling and Nam of Annandale, Virginia.

Two grandchildren, Katelyn and Tanner Eaves; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Sherwood Butcher; and a sister, Marie Strahin.

Karen was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1964 and was employed by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources for 46 years prior to her retirement and had been employed by Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center for 26 years at the time of her death. Karen attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church near Beverly. She was a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother and sister.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Leon Brown officiating.

Cremation will follow and inurnment of the cremains will take place at a later date at Mount Vernon Cemetery near Beverly, West Virginia.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Karen.
