When Irish Eyes Are Smiling
James R. Dugan Sr., 89, beloved husband, father and Poppy, peacefully departed this world on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, with his loving wife of 65 years, Janice Dugan, by his side.
He was preceded in death by 10 of his siblings; his son, Shaun Patrick Dugan; and son-in-law, Joe Rodriguez.
He is also survived by his sister, Janet Dunshee-Baldwin; his children, Jimmy Dugan (Esther) Bucksport, Maine, Colleen Dugan (Judy) Elkins, West Virginia, Kelly Dugan Brick, New Jersey, and Erin Gifford (Drew) Fairmont, West Virginia; his granddaughters, Amanda Napolitani (Abbey), Courtney Sargent, Danielle Bruton and Jillian Dugan; his great-grandsons, Jarron, Jayvion and Eamon; and great-granddaughter, Janessa.
Born and raised in Neptune City, New Jersey, Jim was a U.S. Marine, served the community as Sargeant for NCPD, firefighter for NCFD, as well as on the first aid squad. After retiring in 1985, Jim served Monmouth County working for the prosecutor's office.
In 1988, Jim and Janice moved to West Virginia, where he dedicated time and volunteered for the Catholic church, building houses for Habitat for Humanity, working community food pantries and various other organizations He enjoyed his grandchildren and attending all of their events as they were the apple of his eye. His kind, loving personality combined with his Irish sense of humor made him a stranger to no one and loved by all. Jim was a loving father figure, grandfather, and mentor to many children who adored him over the years.
A private memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
