Richard Lee Fortney

He was born Aug. 5, 1946 at Elkins, West Virginia, a son of the late Jessie Clyde and Norma Marie Vanpelt Fortney.

He was united in marriage to the former Anissa Davon Marsh, who survives at their home near Belington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Donnie Fortney of Belington and Brian Fortney and wife, Nicole, of the Dry Fork Community; a daughter, Janet Riffle of New York; three step-children, Brittany Watson and Samantha Marsh, both of Belington, and Chad Watson of Junior.

Additional survivors include four brothers, Delmas Clyde Fortney and wife, Evelyn, of Valley Head, Jerry Fortney and wife, Connie, of Valley Head, Harold Fortney and wife, Joan, of Belington, and Donald Ray Fortney of Elkins; three sisters, Billie Robinson and husband, Rick, of Elkins, Mary Trickett and husband, James, of Shinnston, and Janet Louise Fortney Bennett and husband, Howard, of Junior.

Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Riffle; and one son, Eric Sturdivant.

Richard attended the schools of Randolph County and was Protestant by faith. He was previously employed for Pepsi Cola Company and Allegheny Wood products and lastly for Dingess Lumber as a loader operator.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed wood working. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, where final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will then follow in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery near Buckhannon.
