Mrs. Artie J. Shiflett, 82, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 18, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Dec. 27, 1940, at Mabie, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Daniel Boone Zirkle and the late Emily Jane Shreve Zirkle.
On June 1, 1958, in the Rowan United Methodist Church at Mabie, she married Ronald H. "Buck" Shiflett, who preceded her in death Sept. 4, 2015.
Surviving are two sons, Howard Leon Shiflett, Elkins, and Gregory Allen Shiflett of Middletown, Ohio.
One daughter, Telma Jean "Tammy" Shiflett of Huttonsville; four brothers, James Lewis Zirkle, Elkins, Junior Leon Zirkle, Buckhannon, Lloyd Jackson Zirkle, Medina, Ohio, and Raymond Neal Zirkle, Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Bertie Mae Stone, Newburg, West Virginia, and Emogene Simmons of Elyria, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding her in death was one brother, Daniel Edward Zirkle; two sisters, Nellie Marie Carver and Bettie Louise Sturdivant; one grandson, Alan Chamberlain; and four great-granddaughters, Isabella, Brianna and Alanna Chamberlain and Katherine Bolgar.
Mrs. Shiflett attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Coalton High School. She was employed as a waitress at G.C. Murphy Company in Elkins for 25 years prior to her retirement.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, from the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
