George William Nefflen, 78, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, after a rapid decline of his health.
Born on Monday, Aug. 14, 1944, in Trinidad, Colorado, George was a beloved member of his community. He was known for his curiosity, sociability, and generosity.
George is survived by his loving children, Joseph Nefflen and wife, Kathy, of Owings Mills, Maryland, Kimberly Thomas and husband, Timothy, of Aumsville, Oregon, and Teresa Murray of San Antonio, Texas; and seven grand children and four great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother, Louis "Henry" Nefflen of Elkins; three sisters, Beverly Blayne Randolph of Morgantown, Rebecca Sue Joyner and husband, Greg, of Conyers, Georgia, and Linda Kay Beer and husband, Thomas, of Kennesaw; and several nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Sybil Irene Legg Nefflen; his father, Dr. Louis Henry Nefflen; and his siblings, Dr. Paul Eugene Nefflen, Robert Ewalt Nefflen, Mary Elizabeth Nefflen and James David Nefflen.
His wife and love of his life, Priscilla Jane Stull Nefflen, also preceded him in death.
George attended Elkins High School and went on to pursue higher education at Fairmont State College. He later served in the United States Army and was very proud of his service as a paratrooper in the jungles of Panama. After his military service, George worked as a coal miner in West Virginia and dedicated over 20 years of his life to teaching as a science teacher in the Palm Beach County School system in south Florida. He impacted the lives of countless students at both the high school and middle school levels. In his free time, George enjoyed gathering with friends and indulging in his passion for gardening. His green thumb was admired by all who knew him. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting for mushrooms in the mountains of Randolph County.
A ceremony to honor George's life will be held at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home in Elkins, West Virginia, on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kevin Gainer officiating.
George William Nefflen will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched. May his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
