Lillian Amelia (Smith) Bertelli, 88, a resident of Norton, West Virginia, flew away to Heaven on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.
Lillian was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Jacksontown, New Brunswick, Canada.
She was born to the late Bessie and Dibble Smith and is preceded in death by her four brothers, Elden, Frank, Arden and Edson Smith; and sister, Myrna Graham.
In January of 1959, she married Francesco (Frank) Bertelli in Presque Isle, Maine, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They spent most of their life together in Norton, West Virginia, until his death in December 2021. Early in Lillian's life she worked as a home health care nurse, however she dedicated most of her time to taking care of her children.
Left to miss her dearly are her four children, Carlo (and Chrissy) Bertelli of Midland, Virginia, Cindy (and Ben) Majetich, West Richland, Washington, Lori (and Rich) Rivers of Marshall, Virginia, and Michael (and Amanda) Bertelli of Chickasha, Oklahoma.
She also leaves behind many grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Other close family and friends to acknowledge are Lillian's sister-in-law, Mary Smith of Kitchener, Ontario; and her niece, Shirley Berry of Mississauga, Ontario.
They spoke often on the phone and corresponded monthly through letters and cards.
She also loved Tim and Connie Elmore, who helped care for both her and Frank in their later years in life.
Tim preceded her in death in August 2023.
Lillian had a strong faith in God and loved playing the piano, harmonica and singing in church. She embraced her Canadian heritage and tried to visit as much as possible, however she was very proud when she became a U.S. citizen on May 8 1990. She was loyal, dedicated and will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.
Lillian will be cremated per her request and the family will have a celebration of life at their home in Norton in the coming weeks.
