Ronald Luke Cross, 86, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life early Saturday morning, Oct. 7, 2023, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center at Elkins, West Virginia, following a brief illness.
He was born Sunday, March 14, 1937, at Hendricks, West Virginia, a son of the late Luke and Katherine Aliza Wilfong Cross.
On April 12, 1958, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to the former Shelva "Sis" Jean Elza, who preceded him in death Feb. 27, 2009.
Surviving are seven daughters, Paula Jean Teter and husband, Delbert, Greta Sue Nelson and husband, Ronnie, and Ronda Lee Teter, all of Whitmer, and Hannah Faith Cross, Emily Anne Cross, Haileigh Grace Cross and Leah Hope Cross, all of Elkins; one stepdaughter, Amayah Kay Mahoney of Elkins; two brothers, Kenny Cross of Fries, Virginia, and Delmar Cross and wife, Eleanor, Painesville, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Jeff Teter, Katie Harper, Monica McIe, Jessica Runion, Erika Miller, Samantha Nelson, R.J. Nelson, Tabitha Cook, and Asher Judy; 16 great-grandchildren, Jacob Teter, Brooke Whitacre, Jaron Harper, Daron Harper, Raquel Rice, Kayanna Rudy, Preston Runion, Dakohta Brown, Jamia Miller, Kaylee Miller, Dalton Summerfield, Wade Summerfield, Waylon Summerfield, Sydney Summerfield, Raylee Cook and Thomas Cook; one great- great-grandson, Jaxon Teter; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one son, Ronald Ray Cross; two daughters, Edna Denise Cross and Rita Elizabeth Arbaugh; two sisters, Twila Carr and Evelyn Taylor; two brothers, James Cross and Bernard Cross; two sons-in-law, Wes Teter and Steve Arbaugh, one grandson, Jason Teter; and one great-grandson, Caleb Arbaugh.
Ronald was a graduate of Harman High School, had worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways, as well as a Car Salesman and a Real Estate Agent. In his younger days, he attended the Mennonite Church and later became a member of the Whitmer Methodist Church.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion and the Belington VFW.
Ronald enjoyed hunting in his younger years, liked visiting and talking with people. He enjoyed helping people out as much as possible.
Ronald loved his family tremendously and will be sadly missed.
The family would like to thank Ronald's caretakers, Will Mahoney, Robin Vance and the staff at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center.
The family will receive friends at the Whitmer Methodist Church at Whitmer on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Final Rites will be conducted from the church Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at 11 a.m.
Pastor Steve Wymer will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer, West Virginia, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the WV Army National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion, and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Ronald Luke Cross.
