Russell L. Strawder

STRAWDER

Russell L. Strawder, 91, a resident of the Harding Community, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.

He was born Oct. 9, 1932, at Glady, a son of the late Cecil L. and Mabel Smith Strawder.

On May 9, 1960, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to Gloria Ellen Jack, who preceded him in death Aug. 21, 2011.

Surviving are two sons, Steven Strawder and wife, Susan, of Harding, West Virginia, and James Allen and wife, Joyce, of Texas; one daughter, Rose Ann Shreve and fiance, Mark Arbogast, of Harding; one brother, Jack Strawder of Kentucky; and one sister, Nancy Fenstermacher of Belington; three grandchildren, Jessa Strawder, Joshua Strawder and Kristen Strawder and wife, Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Carr, Addalyn Strawder, Kohen Strawder and Kreed Strawder.

Also preceding him in death was one brother, Cecil Strawder Jr.; two sisters, Janice Sturdivant and Jean Strawder; and one grandson, Kevin R. Shreve. Russell was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart and the Korean Service medal with five bronze stars.

He retired from Polino Enterprise and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He was a very talented carpenter and woodworker.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor John Welch officiating.

Interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman where full Military Honors will be accorded by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H. W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign War.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 301 Grant Street, Suite 900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 in memory of Russell.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Russell Lee Strawder.
