Mary Louise Joseph Davis, 74, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, went to see her Heavenly Father on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.
She was born on Thursday May 19, 1949, in Petersburg, West Virginia, to the late Louis George Joseph and Janie Susie VanMeter Joseph.
On March 4, 1972, she was married to her husband James Davis, who preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 2009.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph Matthew Davis and Jeremy Scott Davis; step-sons, James Davis Jr. and Kevin Marc Davis; also by the "apples of her eyes" her five grandchildren, Trei, Abigail, Anika, Maxwell and Anna; and one sister, Alma Jean Harris (Bill) .
Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Sue Owens.
Mary was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1967. She graduated from Glenville State College with a degree in AB Education and WVU with a MA Degree. She worked at Third Ward Elementary School for 40 years. After retirement from Third Ward, she worked as a substitute teacher there. In her own words "I hope to be remembered by my God, church, family and by all the students lives I may have touched as a teacher at both school and church.
Mary was a member of Beverly United Methodist Church, where she was the Women's Group treasurer for several years . She also taught and helped with the MYF at the church. She was a member of the Women's Club of Elkins in which she had served as secretary and communications chairperson. Mary was actively involved with the Randolph County Relay for Life where she served as the Luminaria chairperson for the county and chair for the Women's Club team for many years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Sorority. However, perhaps her most cherished reward was given by the teachers and students of Third Ward School when she was chosen for the school's "Hero Hall of Fame."
Mary's body will be cremated per her wishes.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr and Barb Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted from the funeral home at 1:30 p.m.
Pastor Andrew Boley will officiate and private inurnment will take place at Mt. State Memorial Gardens in Gilman.
