Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Harmon Taylor, 89, a former resident of Belington and more recently of the Mansfield Place Assisted Living Facility in Philippi, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2023, in the care facility. Death was following a period of declining health.
She was born on July 15, 1934, in Limington, Maine, a daughter of the late Carlton Eugene and Edith Mae Merrill Harmon. On Sept. 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to Ivan E. Taylor Sr., who survives in Philippi.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son; Ivan E. Taylor Jr. and wife, Charlotte, of Crawford, Georgia; and one daughter, Dawn E. McCarty and husband, James Jr., of Waddell, Arizona.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Dwight L. Taylor; three brothers, Merrill Harmon, Stanley Harmon and Carl Harmon; and one sister, Gladys Harmon.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Nancy attended the schools in Limington, Maine, where she was a high school graduate and attended Houghton College. In her younger years she worked in a dress factory and was also a homemaker. She was a child care provider for 28 years. She faithfully attended the Faithway Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Nancy was very hospitable to everyone she met and was very dedicated and cared deeply for her family and friends. She loved Ivan Sr. with all of her heart and tried to stay alive as long as she possibly could for him. Her faith in God was like no other, she read God's word every day and was a strong prayer warrior for Him and His word. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, her church and God so very much and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Nancy's request for cremation will be honored.
Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home Chapel, 56 N. Brandenburg St. in Belington, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, with a memorial service to be conducted at 2 p.m. with Ivan E. Taylor Jr. officiating and will be assisted by Pastor David Canny.
Interment of her cremains will follow in the Faithway Baptist Cemetery.
