Arlan Kenneth Skogstad

Mr. Arlan Kenneth Skogstad, 71, a resident of Montrose, Barbour County departed this life Friday morning, Dec. 22, 2023, at his residence. Although he was in declining health, death was unexpected.

He was born Feb. 21, 1952, a son of the late Norris Albert and Geraldine Snyder (Gross) Skogstad.

Left to cherish his memory are three sons, Alan Skogstad of Beverly, Paul Skogstad and Arlan Skogstad, both of Rhode Island; and one daughter, Cindy Skogstad of Belington. Also surviving are one brother, Norris Ray Skogstad of FairBanks, Alaska; and one grandson, Donald Eugene "DJ" Kisner II. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell Jeffrey Skogstad Sr., Earnest Lee Gross-Gordon and Albert Gordon; and one sister, Donna Sue Snyder.

Arlan was a graduate of the Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1970. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seal.

Arlan worked as a park ranger at Teter Creek Lake for numerous years, and he was lastly employed at Walmart as a stockman. He was a member of the Weaver Church of the Nazarene where he loved to attend, and was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed collecting watches, clocks and movies.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Per his request cremation will be honored. Graveside services will be scheduled in the summer for Mr. Skogstad in the Stringtown Cemetery with full military rites being conducted.
