Larry Gordon Gross, 75, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at his residence surrounded by family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.
Larry was born Friday, March 19, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Clifford Horton Gross and Cora Belle Ball Gross.
On Aug. 1, 1970, he married the former Suellen Farr, who survives at home.
Also left to cherish his memory are three children, Cassandra Gross and Karim of Pasadena, Texas, Eric Gross and Tomoko of Peoria, Illinois, and Kevin Gross and wife, Erin, of Louisville, Ohio; grandchildren, Taylor Roberts, Christopher, Brayden and Dakota Gross; great-grandchildren, Madison, Riley and Josh Roberts; one cousin, Betty Wilson; nieces and nephews, Lori and Teresa Monska, Beth Gross Collins, Wade and Kirk Gross, and Cody Gross.
Preceding Larry in death besides his parents were four siblings, Paul Gross, Darlene Gross Monska, Doug Gross and David Gross.
Larry was a graduate of Rutherford B. Hayes High School in Delaware, Ohio. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army from March 19, 1968 to March 19, 1970. Folllowing his service, Larry attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. He was always employed in the wood industry. He had worked for Trus Joist, Delaware, Ohio, Timberweld Manufacturning, Columbus, Montana, as Plant Manager, Gatewood Products, Parkersburg, West Virginia, as President, and Colonial Millworks, Beverly, West Virginia, as President from which he retired. Larry was a very active and athletic man who had been a member of several organizations including, Congregational Church, Radnor, Ohio, Montana Jaycees, Montana School Board for nine years, he was a USA softball umpire in Montana and Ohio, a Montana State Bowling Champion, Youth Basketball and Baseball coach, Region 7, Randolph County, Y Board, Elkins, Tygart Valley Lions Club, and the Izaak Walton League.
Larry enjoyed playing golf, was an excellent trap shooter, a Mustang collector, and an International traveler who visited 56 countries and islands. Most of all, he loved being with his family.
Larry's request for cremation was honored.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Rich Cardot will officiate.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Larry's name to the Tygart Valley Lions Club, 3154 Seneca Trail Beverly WV 26253 or the Izaak Walton League of America, PO Box 1891 Elkins WV 26241.
The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for Larry Gordon Gross.
