Montie Ray Corley, 73, a resident of Mabie, West Virgina, passed from this life on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at Autumn Lake Health Care in Crystal Springs.
Montie was born Dec. 26, 1949, in Elkins, a son of the late Rev. John Kenneth Corley Sr. and Jean Currence Corley; and grandson of the late John A. Corley and Icie Collier Corley and Hileary Currence and Ethel Jordan Currence.
On April 6, 1995, he was married to Julia Channell Corley, who survives in Mabie, West Virginia with their pet dog, Trapper. He is survived by five daughters, Christina Corley Scott and husband, Michael, Lisa Corley; three additional daughters; one son, Bradley Thompson and wife, Christie; grandchildren, Tyeler Ransweiler, Kelcey Thompson and Cameron Thompson; stepchildren, Dennis Phillips and wife, Sandy, and Lori Phillips Newcome and husband, Brian; step- grandchildren, Paige Phillips, Logan Phillips, Brittanie Dean and husband, Nathan, and Brooke Davis and husband, Ben; step- great-grandchildren, Violet Dean, Nolan Dean and Jude Dean; one sister, Carolyn Jean Corley Channell and husband, Gary; and four brothers, John Kenneth (Ken) Corley Jr. and wife, Lisa, Mickey Lee Corley and wife, Patricia, Dewaine Anderson Corley and wife, Lorna, and Keith Allen Corley and wife, Beth, all of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Montie attended Tygarts Valley High School and continued his studies at the University of Dayton Ohio. On Nov. 1, 1967, he joined the United States Army, where he served 11 years. During his military services, he served two tours in Vietnam.
While serving in Vietnam, he was part of the motor pool that drove supplies to the various units. After returning to the United States, he was stationed at Fort Monroe, Hampton, Virginia, where he served as a Sergeant E6 in the Military Police, earning various awards throughout his military service. After his military service he worked as a long distant truck driver for several trucking companies during his career and retired from Hinkle Trucking Company. He enjoyed his antique cars and going to car shows, riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, camping, deer hunting with his brothers and friends at the cabin and he also enjoyed western movies.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at 10 a.m., from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Dewaine A. Corley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Cemetery, Mabie, West Virginia.
Full Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Danels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1002 S. Crim Ave., Belington, WV 26250 in memory of Montie.
