Theodore M. "Ted" Yokum, 79, of Harman, West Virginia, departed this life on Friday morning, Dec. 8, 2023, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living Center in Elkins, West Virginia.
Mr. Yokum was born Aug. 28, 1944, at Elkins, West Virginia, a son of the late Troy and Nora Harper Yokum.
He was a graduate of Harman High School and attended Potomac State College. He was employed by the US Postal Service and served as the Harman Postmaster from 1965 until his retirement in 1999. He attended Harperton Sunday School and Harman Church of the Brethren. Ted was a life-long, dedicated, and hard-working farmer. He was most content while spending countless hours working on the farm on Allegheny Mountain. He had a special passion for working black angus cattle with his brothers and sons. His love of the land and cattle was evident in the meticulous care he provided to the family farm.
Surviving are three children, Rick Yokum and wife, Phyllis, of Bowden, James Yokum of Harman and Teresa Cooper and husband, Don, of Dayton, Virginia; six grandchildren, Ashley Yokum, Tessa Ware, Emma Yokum, Adam Yokum, James Tyler Cooper and Lukas Cooper; four great-grandchildren, Bricen, Kinley, Harper and Hyson; and three brothers, Bob Yokum of Bruceton Mills, Mike Yokum of Seneca Rocks and John Yokum of Elkins.
Ted is also survived by special friend, Judy Nelson, of Harman, West Virginia. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Mountain Memories Assisted Living Center for the exceptional care they provided for their father throughout his stay.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A small service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation hours with Pastor Bob Yothers officiating.
Mr. Yokum's wish for cremation will be honored and a private burial will be held at a later date at the Yokum Family Cemetery on Allegheny Mountain near Harman.
