Anita Merle Day Currence, 71, a resident of Huttonsville, passed from this life Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, at home with family by her side and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
Anita was born Saturday, May 5, 1940, in Elkins, a daughter of the late William Day and Mary Eva Hamilton.
On Jan. 3, 1959, in Elkins, she married Warren Edward "Tod" Currence, who preceded her in death.
Left to cherish her memory are two children, Rick Currence and fiance, Twilla Evans, of Huttonsville, and Rodney Currence and wife, Theara, of Brookeville, Maryland; four grandchildren, CJ, Andrew and wife, Hazel, Daniel and Kelly Currence; three great-grandchildren, Meikel, Ariella and Zac Currence; two sisters, Louise Hart of Belington and Marie Kennedy of Elkins; and one brother, Pootie Simmons.
Preceding her in death besides her parents was one sister, Nancy Keller; and one brother, Boyce Simmon.
Anita was a graduate of McKinley High school in Washington, D.C. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. After 34 years of living in Maryland to raise their family, she and Tod retired in Huttonsville in 1993. Anita was Presbyterian by faith and an active member of Tygart Valley Presbyterian Church in Huttonsville.
Anita's request for cremation was honored and a memorial service is being planned to be held in the coming weeks.
